Sustainability

Certified recycling, responsible production

Thaloplast works on two fronts: recycling plastic into GRS-certified compound resins, and running the plant to the SMETA (Sedex) ethical trade standard.

Our recycling workshop processes 8,000 tonnes of plastic a year. Our rPP and rPS compounds supply Mainetti and partners in Belgium and Germany, helping customers meet EPR targets and ESG commitments.

Extending the life of materials

We recover and process plastic scrap, then return it to production as recycled resins and compounds. Material stays in use for longer, less virgin plastic is needed and the environmental impact is reduced.

The recycling lines have their own building, warehouse and staff, separate from pharmaceutical packaging. Pharma and food-contact packaging uses virgin resin only.

Circular production

From plastic scrap to finished products delivered to customers in Vietnam and abroad. After use, products are collected and go back into the recycling loop.

  1. Plastic scrap collection: warehouse, forklifts and a truck loaded with scrap bags1

    Scrap collection

Recovering post-industrial and post-consumer plastic scrap as raw material.

  2. Workers pre-sorting plastic scrap by colour into crates2

    Pre-sorting

Sorting by polymer type and colour, and removing contaminants.

  3. Recycling line producing compound pellets3

    Compounding

Recycling into recycled resin and GRS-certified compound pellets.

  4. Laboratory testing the quality of the pellets4

    Quality testing

Testing mechanical properties, colour and cleanliness of the pellets.

  5. Injection moulding machine making crates, jerrycans and hangers5

    Injection & blow moulding

Making crates, jerrycans, packaging, polybags and hangers.

  6. Finished goods packed and palletised for customers6

    B2B packing

Packing, labelling and palletising to each customer’s requirements.

  7. Domestic distribution and export by truck, ship and plane7

    Distribution & export

Delivering in Vietnam and for export. After use, products return to step 1.

Plastic scrap collection: warehouse, forklifts and a truck loaded with scrap bags

Stage 1: steps 1 and 2

Material recovery

Post-industrial and post-consumer plastic scrap is collected, sorted by polymer type and colour, and cleaned of contaminants.

Thaloplast works with companies that have plastic scrap to bring it back into production. Every source differs in polymer, volume and location, so the arrangement is discussed with each partner individually.

Stage 2: steps 3 and 4

Material regeneration

Our dedicated recycling plant grinds, pelletises and compounds rPP and rPS, with a capacity of 8,000 tonnes a year. Its buildings, warehouse and staff are fully separate from pharmaceutical packaging production.

The on-site lab tests mechanical properties, colour and cleanliness of the pellets. Our recycled compounds have been GRS certified since 2022.

Stage 3: steps 5 to 7

Production and delivery

Recycled rPP and rPS compounds go into industrial applications, packed and palletised to each customer’s requirements. Over 15 years, Thaloplast has supplied more than 30,000 tonnes of compound to Mainetti, and has exported directly to Europe since 2018. Every GRS shipment comes with a Transaction Certificate.

Pharmaceutical and food packaging use virgin plastic only. After use, products are collected and return to step 1.
